Dangerous Substance
“... and finally you must be extremely careful when handling dihydrogen monoxide,” Ken said, having explained all the do’s and don’ts of the job.
Keeping a straight face the foreman looked across at the other plumbers. “It’s a very dangerous substance, very dangerous indeed.”
“In what way?” asked Callum, innocent in the ways of tradesmen and the way they have traditionally behaved towards new apprentices.
“Well for starters, it can cause excessive sweating. In its gaseous state it can cause severe burns and when it’s inhaled it’ll cause immediate death. It’s well recognised by the scientific world as a major component in acid rain as well as being a cheif contributor to erosion. Now if that’s not enough, it also decreases the effectiveness of automobile brakes.
So you see, it’s important to treat it with the utmost respect.”
Callum looked nervously at the others who had stopped working to listen to Ken’s description.
“Now one of your chief responsibilities on this job involves this substance. Do you see that shed over there?”
Callum looked at the battered old structure on the edge of the building site that Ken was pointing at and nodded.
“Well in there is an old white kettle. Your task is to ever so carefully fill it up with dihydrogen monoxide, plug the kettle into the socket and then wait until it boils. You’ll have to do this three times a day. In fact,” said the foreman looking at his watch, “it’s time to do it right now!”

He was working for a 1 week because he still doesn't know how to do his job.
b. What do you think the dangerous substance is? Why do you say that?
I think the dangerous substance is the water because dihydrogen is basically water.
c. Was Ken serious when telling Callum about dihydrogen monoxide? Why do you say that?
Ken was serious when telling callum about dihydrogen monoxide because he say he need to be extremely careful.
d. Why was he told to boil it up three times a day?
He told to boil it up three times a day to make the water clean.

No because he just use different term for water.

For reading we did a Key into Evaluation. Then I answered the all of the question after I read all of the poem. It was quite hard because I need to write a reason. I think this helps my reading and vocabularies. I learnt that Dihydrogen Monoxide is very dangerous chemical.
